S.A.F.E. Pet Rescue – Saving Animals From Euthanasia
SAFE was founded in 2008 with the goal of rescuing animals from kill shelters when they are facing euthanasia. SAFE is always on the scene to rescue from hoarding situations, breeders gone bad, and community emergency situations.
To date, SAFE has rescued over 30,000 amazing pets who became homeless through no fault of their own.
Every rescue comes with a story and a heart, and each one desperately deserves a forever home and family.
The Story Behind the Founding of SAFE:
"Because of Yellow Dog"
by Robin Kantner-Nordan, Co-founder of SAFE Pet Rescue
Yellow Dog was dumped one hot summer day at a shelter in Florida. His name on the owner release was mutt. His reason for surrender – “don’t need him anymore”.
He was a boney, dull-coated fellow, his feet were deformed because his toenails had grown in circles, and he walked with a funny limp as his front leg had been broken. He was heartworm-positive, was blind in one eye, and he was terrified of humans. He was named Yellow Dog. His breed was Lab/Pitbull X. He was put into a kennel, from which he promptly escaped.
And so the story of Yellow Dog begins…
Adoption Centers
SAFE has adoption centers in St. Augustine Beach, Treasure Beach, and Hollister.
The Sanctuary at Hollister
S.A.F.E. believes every dog deserves compassion and care regardless of their adoptability status. The Sanctuary at Hollister is a safe, loving place where elderly and non-adoptable dogs can live out their lives in comfort. Each dog has a place to call home, to feel loved, and a place to lay their heads down, feeling wanted. Our Sanctuary dogs and volunteers love visitors! Call/Text 904.343.7200 for an appointment!
Resale Store
SAFE has a resale store with a great selection of furniture, clothing, artwork, jewelry, and household items. Our resale store is run entirely by volunteers, so more of our monetary donations go directly to the care of our pets!
Mobile Adoption Van
A very generous donor from Putnam County, who has always supported and believed in our cause, made a wonderful donation of a custom Mobile Pet Adoption van. Because of her generosity, our rescued pets continue to travel in comfort and style to various locations to meet adopters. We have been more successful than ever rehoming our pets. Follow us on FACEBOOK for updates on where our next event will be held!
